Workplace Mental Health Injuries

Your place of work should be an environment where you feel safe and protected from harm. If you’ve experienced a workplace injury, the consequences to your physical and emotional health, as well as your finances, can be overwhelming.workplace mental health: your rights and entitlements

That’s why you may be entitled to a range of benefits and compensation under the Workers’ Compensation Scheme. This scheme exists to assist injured workers in Queensland by providing a range of benefits to help you through difficult times and to help you recover from your injury. It is your employer’s responsibility to provide a safe working environment, but there are a range of common workplace hazards that can contribute to injuries, including impacts on mental health.

If your client has sustained a workplace injury or contracted an illness at work, they may be entitled to a range of benefits and compensation under the Workers’ Compensation Scheme.

Workers Compensation Scheme

Under the Workers Compensation Scheme, you may be entitled to the following benefits if you’ve been injured or become ill at work:

  • Weekly payments to cover loss of income
  • Medical, Hospital and associated expenses
  • Rehabilitation services
  • Personal and/or attendant care
  • A lump sum payment in some circumstances
  • Damages for pain and suffering, as well as economic loss and your out of pocket expenses

Superannuation Claims

If you are a member of the workforce, you have superannuation that is funded by contributions from your employer. What you may not realise is that you may be able to access a range of benefits that form part of your superannuation fund membership if you are injured or ill, including mental health injuries. Generally, most people have insurance cover attached to their superannuation fund. You may be eligible to claim in the event that you suffer injury or illness and are unable to work.
